WHAT IS PILATES?
Pi·la·tes is a system of exercises designed to move your body in all planes and ranges of motion to retrain your body's optimal functionality. Pilates focuses on strength training through resistance and body weight to increase flexibility, mobility and muscle definition. Every body can start pilates and gain rewards from their efforts because of its high ability to adapt to the individual's needs.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM PILATES?
The benefits from a regular pilates practice are vast, but some of the top ones are: Increase in muscle definition/tone, greater flexibility, better focus, stronger posture, less stress. In Pilates, we will use repetitions, static poses and flowing exercises to challenge your body's endurance and strength. We use props, equipment and detailed queuing to instruct your body no matter where your fitness currently is at.
HOW OFTEN DO YOU RECOMMEND PILATES?
The best answer to this question is however much your calendar, wallet and body can do! I usually recommend clients frequency based on their goals. The nature of pilates allows it to be done every day, but I often find clients like the day off in between sessions. My clients average attendance is 2-4x a week. Whichever you choose, remember consistency is key to reaching your goals.
WHO IS PILATES USEFUL FOR?
Everybody can benefit from a consistent pilates practice. Pregnant and postpartum women can regain abdominal strength and gain new support for childcare. Scoliosis clients can find greater mobility for their spine. Golfers can find their edge in defining their range of motion. Pilates is wonderful for men and women of all ages. Our instructors are trained to work with many various populations.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
You can wear whatever you are comfortable moving and sweating in. Expect to move in all ranges of motion, so make sure your clothes move with you. We practice on hardwood floors and equipment, so barefeet or sticky socks are used. Toessoxs can be purchased for your convenience at the studio.
